Sensory Garden - Seamus Heaney-The Home Place

26th Jun 2018

On Tuesday 19th June, S1 pupils visited the new Sensory Garden at the Seamus Heaney Home Place Bellaghy, receiving a warm welcome from Brian, Claire and all the team.

The visit was introduced with a story, ‘Blackberry Picking’, followed by decorating CD’s which were later made into a garden ornament and placed as a permanent feature in the garden.

Outside, the weather was kind to us and the pupils used all their senses as they walked around and explored the garden. They tasted fresh mint, felt trickling cold water, smelt the beautiful roses and viewed the wonderful surroundings.

To complete the visit, S1 boys cut out and stuck on visual cues, depicting all the senses that had used.

A perfect afternoon ended with a treat of homemade rhubarb jam, scones and juice.

Many thanks to all at The Home Place for your hospitality!
