S1 were given the opportunity to contribute to society, care for their environment and in particular our birds. As a group activity, all pupils used the resources provided to make bird seed cakes. Lard, raisins and cheese were mixed together to form a thick cake which was left to harden overnight in the fridge. This special bird food cake was squashed into a disposable cup, which had string attached to allow it to be tied to a tree. Pupils demonstrated initiative, using problem solving and decision making processes when deciding where would be the best place to attach their bird cakes. S1 were enthusiastic bird watchers and enjoyed seeing the many different bird species, such as Robins, Sparrows and Blackbirds, of varying colours and sizes, happily eating the food they had been given. An engaging experience for all involved, developing pupils' curiosity and concern for their environment.
