Celebration of World Book Day in S2
World Book Day is a celebration of books, authors, illustrators and especially reading.
S2 pupils got World Book Day off to a great start as each pupil dressed up as a favourite character from a book.
We also participated in Shared Reading when we looked at a Big Book titled; “Dear Daddy” and we focused on concepts about print, vocabulary and comprehension.
Sharing a book with our pupils helped to build up pupils’ concentration and understanding of the story. It also helped the pupils to decode words through the text and encouraged them to have a greater love for stories and books.
We used sensory items to help the pupils understand about the change of seasons through the story and this helped them develop a better understanding of the story and text.
We also had lots of other fun activities following on from World Book Day, such as designing book covers with our favourite characters and taking selfies to make book markers.
We also visited our local library and pupils chose books that were of interest to them . Individuality shone through each pupil as they highlighted characters and areas of interest that made them tick!
