Kilronan School first opened its doors to pupils on 8th December 1993, by the then Education Minister, Michael Ancram, accommodating up to 80 pupils. Steady growth in pupil numbers has been experienced. In September 2009, the EA and DE’s extended provision to include Nursery. 30 years later, there are 176 currently enrolled.
School has expanded to meet the capacity needs. In August 2014, three modular classrooms including pupil toilet area, hygiene room, staff toilet, cleaners store and sensory room were placed on site, now known as ‘Middle School Corridor’. In May 2015, a two-classroom extension including pupil toilets, staff toilets, hygiene room, swing room, soft play area and outdoor learning space, were added to the original building. In August 2017, two modular classrooms including pupil toilets, staff toilet, cleaner store were placed within the school carpark. In May 2019, one modular classroom including pupil toilet, staff toilet and chill room, was placed on the school grounds.
Our school vision of providing a happy, safe and stimulating learning environment where all pupils are motivated to achieve, feel valued and respected as individual remains as important today as it did 30 years ago. Our inclusive approach meets the needs of each pupil and empowers them to reach their full potential through experience of and participation in all aspects of the curriculum.
Friday 8th was all about celebrating our wonderful pupils, through a birthday party themed day. Pupils enjoyed lots of special treats, such as FitMinds; Fun with Drums; Mickey and Minnie Mouse; The Ice-cream Van and of course, Birthday Cake! ‘Friends of Kilronan’ Charity donated sensory toys and a £10 Amazon Gift Voucher to every pupil and a box of chocolates to staff. We thank the local community who give so generously to our charity, which in turn made it possible for ‘Friends of Kilronan to demonstrate such kindness.
