As part of their Learning for Life and Work Curriculum, S1 pupils participate in weekly Home Economics tasks. Term three's topic 'Healthy Me', provided the opportunity for pupils to prepare and sample a 'Simple Salad'. With minimal staff aid, pupils selected their ingredients and equipment, washed, cut and sliced a variety of vegetables. Cross curricular opportunities with Numeracy were created when pupils sorted the vegetables for colour and shape and counted the food items. ICT and use of the Interactive White Board provided visual cues as pupils followed the simple sequencing steps to preparing the salad. All were able to express and communicate their preference for or against the ingredients within their salad. An engaging learning group activity.
