World Book Day in J8
J8 really enjoyed a sensory story on Matilda by Roald Dahl as part of World Book day/week. We listened to songs from Matilda The Musical and explored some sensory elements. We enjoyed spinning in the swivel chair as Miss Trunchbull was swinging a poor little girl by her pigtails; we sampled a chocolate cake when watching Bruce eating a WHOLE chocolate cake; we played with chains when learning about the Chokey; sampled honey when talking about the lovely kind, Miss Honey and stretched some putty to represent Miss Trunchbull pulling a little boys ears. We are glad our school is nothing like Matilda's school!!
We took part in a whole school competition where we decorated our classroom doors in the theme of a book. We couldn't decide which part of the story of Matilda to illustrate so after some discussion decided to do our own version of the cover of Matilda that was illustrated by Quentin Blake and make our toilet door into the dreaded Chokey. Matilda loves to read stories so we had fun painting lots of books for her to stand on just like the book cover.
We are very proud of what we've made and think the entrance to our classroom looks great!
