S2 pupils participate in Maths Week Ireland - October 2017

14th Apr 2018

S2 pupils participated in Maths Week Ireland with great gusto and excitement. Maths Week activities took place in Kilronan School from the 16th October to 20th October, but unfortunately Storm Ophelia interrupted activities a little, and the activities were extended into the following week!
Problem solving is a challenge we face in our daily lives. Maths Week provides a good opportunity  to take part in many problem-solving situations, which hopefully will improve pupils’ abilities to tackle problems and improve their own lives.

All the pupils got involved in a variety of activities, including an Indoor Maths Trail and outdoor activities. They looked at cars in the car park and counted all those of a specific colour and looked at number plates ending with a certain number . The pupils also counted apples from the orchard, putting them into groups of 5 and made shapes with their bodies in P.E. They also completed an indoor Maths trail focusing on number and shape and space. There was a buzz and a sense of achievement around the school as lots of learning took place.
